Inspired by *szilviabead's wire wrapping tutorial, I set out to make one of my own.

Multiple feet of 28 and 24 gauge wire wrap around a vintage Columbia watch movement. In the wires are white Swarovski pearls and a beautiful wine-colored garnet. The watch sports a genuine ruby and a delicate flower engraving.

This is my first attempt at wire wrapping, so please be nice. :)

This piece has sold, but check out my Etsy Shop to see what else is for sale.

Dammit, you beat me to it :P

It is very well designed, that's a very nice watch movement and the craftsmanship is pretty decent as well. The only thing that bothers me is this tangled ball of wire at the top, where the chain goes through: it adds an unnecessary feeling of chaos to an otherwise very statical and harmonious composition.

Thank you very much!

I completely agree about the bail at the top. It's actually a criss-cross braid pattern that goes over the top and down the back, but from the front it just looks tangled. :hmm: Nothing to be done about it now, though!

:giggle: I think I like this one better than the original. Just simplified enough to appeal to me and I like the idea of using the watch innards. The garnet was a nice touch too.

(How did you extract them if you don't mind me asking? I normally use stones, but I have several dead watches that I can't figure how to play operation on...)

Thank you!

For all watches (pocket or wrist) you can flip them over and pry off the back. Some twist off, some screw off, some pop off, and some have hinges, but every watch opens if you find the right tool. Once the back's open, just tap, pull, or wiggle the movement out. Some of them may require you to pull the winding arm (on the side) out before they can be removed. After that, just get a set of mini-screwdrivers and you can take them all the way apart for gears, or wire-wrap them as they are.

Just be careful: if your watch movement is post-1950, it will most likely be multi-colored plastic and not pretty metal.

Good luck. :)

That one is neat. I'd like to see it at a bit better resolution and taken on a darker background.
